Travertine is a form of limestone deposited by mineral springs, especially hot springs. Travertine often has a fibrous or concentric appearance and exists in white, tan, and cream-colored varieties. It is formed by a process of rapid precipitation of calcium carbonate, often at the mouth of a hot spring or in a limestone cave. In the latter, it can form stalactites, stalagmites, and other speleothems. It is frequently used in Italy and elsewhere as a building material.

Travertine is a terrestrial sedimentary rock, formed by the precipitation of carbonate minerals from solution in ground and surface waters, and/or geothermally heated hot-springs.^[1]^[2] Similar (but softer and extremely porous) deposits formed from ambient-temperature water are known as tufa.

French Drain

A French drain,^[1] blind drain,^[1] rubble drain,^[1] rock drain,^[1] drain tile, perimeter drain or land drain is a trench covered withgravel or rock that redirects surface and groundwater away from an area. A French drain can have perforated hollow pipes along the bottom (see images) to quickly vent water that seeps down through the upper gravel or rock. French drains are common drainagesystems, primarily used to prevent ground and surface water from penetrating or damaging building foundations. Alternatively, the French drain technique may be used to distribute water, such as a septic drain field at the outlet of a typical septic tank sewage treatment system. French drains are also used behind retaining walls to relieve ground water pressure.

Concrete Edge Restraint for Pavers

Life Time Paver uses concrete to set the border pavers securely in place. Plastic edge restraints have a tendancy to lift during freeze thaw cycles causing the border pavers to collapse. Concrete poured to the outside of the pavers have been known to disturb the PH balance of the grass resulting in burnt edges along the pavement edge.

Recycled Bluestone Walkway

The customer wanted to reuse existing bluestone 2x3 slabs she had from when the house was originally built. The new walkway required cutting of the bluestone to create the curves needed to meet the design request. The bluestone was bordered with a 4x8 traditional soldier course border in a charcoal color. The flower bed between the house and the walkway was edge using a chapel paver edger. The end result is a variety of stone textures as well as gray tones to compliment the house.

The bluestone patio was originally installed by another contractor. The top of the retaining wall was visible showing unattractive wedge cuts and the bluestone had settled. Utilizing the existing walls Life Time Pavers added bullnose pavers to cover the top of the walls and relayed the existing bluestone. The joints were then filled using Gatordust.

The paver patio and the natural bluestone patio color combinations were reversed to help tie the two patios together without creating a clash of texture and style.

When the School of the Incarnation in Gambrills, MD decided to construct a memorial gathering place on its property, they hired Life Time Pavers to do the installation. The project is a combination of sitting walls and walkways with engraved pavers for members to honor and remember loved ones.

When the St. Matthews Methodist Church in Bowie, MD needed an upgrade to the front of their church they selected Gravel-Lok as the product to solve the problem. For years maintenance has been an issue in a tree shaded area in front of the church. The shallow root system of the trees was a challenge for other products without causing damage to the root system. The Gravel-Lok Porous Stone Scaping application created a maintenance free area that still allowed water to be delivered to the trees roots. The area can also be used for a spill over standing area during events. The stone used was a Delaware Valley River gravel in a 3/4" size and bonded with Gravel-Lok. Many of the large shallow roots were left revealed penetrating the surface of the Gravel-Lok creating an attractive look. The project was installed within a days time by Life Time Pavers and was donated to the church by one of its members.
